The story behind: Army Reservist faces landscape woes
It was brought to the attention of tens of thousands of Tri-Citizens recently, that a young Army Reservist, his wife and children were embroiled in a legal matter that pitted a local developer against this family, all for the sake of some landscaping! The Reservist had been called to duty overseas and had not been able to get the landscaping completed as requested by the developer. (See article links below) Members of the communities of Kennewick, Pasco, Richland, West Richland and beyond, stepped up to help this young family in their time of need. Tim Montgomery of Montgomery Construction started the drive to help Lt. Jensen and his family. Many wonderful and caring local vendors, co-workers from Energy Northwest, neighbors, community members and Operation Thank You came together over the course of 2 weeks to completely irrigate, sod and plant the Jensen's yard with everything they would need to fulfill the requirements of the developer. Several great vendors supplied tons of food for the workers! In addition, Tim Montgomery and OTY established a bank account to help with the continued maintenance of the yard until Lt. Jensen and his family can return home. Home Depot gave the Jensen's a new riding lawn mower to help with the upkeep of this beautiful new lawn! Several articles written by the Tri-City Herald prompted folks to come out and lend a hand, make a donation, or make a statement of support, with Letters to the Editor. There was news coverage from all over the region, state and even made the CNN news. On Sunday, October 19th, those same members of the community were asked to return and place their hands in the concrete around the newly erected flagpole, to show the Jensen's, who are new to our community, how many helping hands of the Tri-Cities came to their aid during this project. We are most grateful for everyone who was a part of this wonderful show of love and support for the Jensen Family!! You are each a special kind of hero!
